Home for domestic animals in need on the beautiful island of St. John,
US Virgin Islands.
Welcome to Carolina Corral!
Please note as of October 26, 2023 rides will be limited to four experienced or hardy beginners with one pony for the ypinger or smaller rider under 130#. There’s one hill some people consider challenging, although the horses don’t have any problems with it. I’ve also had to raise the rate because of the high cost of keeping horses on a small island. Two were born on St John, the others came from St. Thomas and Puerto Rico. The horseback rides are the main means of income for the yard, supporting all the other rescues and unwanted animals including a goat who had a broken leg and a donkey hit by a car. Rides can be scheduled as something special to do as a couple or as a family. It’s best not to wait till the day before you leave to ride, as anything could happen to make us one horse short or the weather may not be cooperative.
Rides are one hour in length along the shoreline of Coral Bay culminating on a beautiful rocky beach for pictures. Ride on a couple of small sandy beaches on the way back along the water and into the mangroves. They are in the afternoons at 3:00 and 5:00pm, Monday – Friday. Closed toed shoes and long pants or capris recommended for protection from brush and the saddle. I have long pants to borrow if you didn’t bring any with you. Weight limit is 240# with no double riding. Age limit is 10 years old on up for the horses and 8 on up for the pony!
Other activities include helping with the Morning Feed at 8:30am, Monday – Friday. $20 donation each participant

Carolina Corral has been in existence since 1994 having saved the lives of many animals and offering them to folks to come and enjoy. The work has not gotten any easier, although the needs are the same. I hope to pass this on to a couple or family who will continue the horseback rides while I move closer to Cruz Bay with the the donkeys, sheep and goats. If you’re interested in a quieter way of life or know someone who is please reach out to me! I’ll be here to help get started!
My main concern is for the animals who call this island home. I can always use the help making them more comfortable.
